Hangzhou Life Quality International Exchange organized by Hangzhou Life Quality Team with the support of Hangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, Youth League Committee and City Express was held on May 27th. About 200 guests, including officers from over 35 consulates or embassies, directors from world-famous universities or colleges, foreign experts and international students, as well as journalists from international mass media, were divided into four groups to inspect 27 places to experience the charm of Hangzhou, a city of life quality.
7am, Wulin Square. Citizens were leaving after morning exercises. The guests were a bit late to witness the hassles, but they didn't miss the chance to see all kinds of exercises. Taichi, as a symbol of China, caught eyes of every guest. Mr. Shao, one of the instructors, performed the 13 Actions of Taichi on the spot and explained each action in English, "The second action is Lu, smooth out with the fingers, as if smooth out a piece of paper."
The guests couldn't wait to have a try. Pauline from Canada followed Mr. Shao and commented in excitement, "I learnt Taichi a little bit. It's good for the health."
Wen Xiaofan from USA used to visit Hangzhou quite often when he was teaching in Shanghai. He enjoyed the life in Hangzhou so much that he moved and settled in Hangzhou. Now teaching in Foreign Languages College of Zhejiang Gongshang University, he was especially in love with the water bus route on the Grand Canal designed by the organizer.
At 8 am, as the sun shone over the Grand Canal, water birds like cormorants were flying over the water surface from time to time. Wen Xiaofan couldn't help saying, "beautiful, very beautiful."
"There is an old Chinese saying - stealing half-day leisure from the hectic life. There are a lot of beautiful places in Hangzhou, you should stop and smell the roses." said Dr. Lou Hansong, deputy director of Asia-Pacific Leisure Instruction Research Center.
"Write this down for me," Wen Xiaofan liked the saying, "We enjoy leisure, but we can't put it so elegantly."
In the afternoon, the guests were invited to Huqing Yutang, the traditional Chinese medicine clinic. Dr. Lü Zhong explained in English from the philosophical theory of the traditional Chinese medicine to the concept of harmony of nature and human beings, from the kidney disease to the balance of Yin and Yang and the combination of Chinese and western medicine. After his speech, the admiring guests surrounded him and asked for a written document of his lecture, so as to bring back home for further digestion.
Two ways of seeing, Two ways of thinking, this was a sub-title in Dr. Lü's lecture and it was great to describe the international exchange, too.
