Over the past 30 years since the reform and opening up, Zhejiang has embraced the world with open-mindedness and broad visions. With the support of friends from all over the world, Zhejiang has made great achievements in its economic development and other social undertakings, which have attracted worldwide attention. The years have also witnessed more frequent and extensive friendly exchanges between the province and the rest of the world. Zhejiang is now not only an important channel for friends to gain a better understanding of China as a whole, but also a place of lingering beautiful memory for them.

　　 In order to further deepen the friendship between people in Zhejiang Province and the rest of the world and show the world the new image of Zhejiang viewed by foreign friends, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Zhejiang Provincial Association for Cultural Communications with Foreign Countries, Zhejiang Daily Group now jointly hold an Essay Writing Competition on “Eyes on Zhejiang” to solicit essays written in vivid vocabulary by our foreign friends, both old and new, about their experience in Zhejiang or any touching or emotional moments they have had in the province.

　　 Style and Theme: no specific limitations on style and theme.

　　 Language: Chinese or other languages.

　　 Length: less than 1500 words. Please attaché a profile of the author in no more than 200 words.

　　 Participants: foreign friends living or working in Zhejiang or those who have been to the province.

　　 Deadline: August 30th, 2010

　　 Procedure: The organizing committee will have the essays judged by experts and among all the participants, there will be one 1st prize winner with an award of RMB￥2000, and three 2nd prize winners with an award of RMB￥1000 each and five 3rd prize winners with an award of RMB￥500, or souvenirs of the same value of the awards. Besides, there will be 20 winners of prize for excellence, who will be awarded souvenirs. All qualified essays will be published on Zhejiang Daily, Qianjiang Evening News, Cultural Dialogue, Intouch Zhejiang and Zhejiang Online. Essays won’t be returned to the author once submitted, though.
