“There were phoenix trees in ancient times on which phoenix would come and perch”. Home of phoenix trees-Tongxiang was named because there were numerous phoenix trees in ancient times. “Up above there is paradise, down below there are Suzhou and Hangzhou, and Tongxiang is in the middle of Suzhou and Hangzhou”. Tongxianng is located in the hinterland of Hang-Jia-Hu Plain in the center of Yangtze Delta Area. Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway, Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway, and the Grand Canal traverse the land. It has a total area of 727 square kilometers and a registered population of 683,000.

Tongxiang has a longstanding reputation as the "land of fish and rice, home of silk and state of culture ". The Majiabang Culture, Liangzhu Culture, Canal Culture, and Ancient Town Culture enhance each other's beauty in this place. Zhang Lvxiang, Lv Liuliang, Mao Dun, Feng Zikai, Qian Juntao, Xu Xiaobing and other well-known scholars were all born here. Tongxiang is the first pilot county of comprehensive reform of tourism and China’s Excellent Tourism City. Watertown Wuzhen has a good reputation domestically and overseas for its rivers and lakes. It is one of China’s Top 10 Famous Historical and Cultural Towns, and in the second list of AAAAA Nation Scenic Spots. Tongxiang is one of China’s Top 10 Market Cities and has China’s Largest Wool Sweater Manufacturing Basement and Distribution Centre(Puyuan) and Global Fur Trade Basement(Chongfu).In 2013, the county realized GDP of 57.35 billion RMB and the fiscal income was 8.15 billion RMB.
